Linda Roast
Linda Roast studied Art and Design at St. Martin’s School of Art, London and went on to have a successful career in advertising. She has since returned to her true passion Drawing and Painting. She moved to Norfolk in 1997 where she has become known for her modern Life Drawings in pastel.
“I prefer working at speed, to catch the movement and intricacies of the human form in an instant of time. I feel my work is best when drawn from instinct and passion. I am interested in the looseness and vitality of a line juxtaposed with solidness of the form. My drawings are completed ‘on the spot’ with the model in front of me, to keep their liveliness. The pressure to complete a drawing in time keeps my work fresh. My pastel work ranges from pure line to a mixture of line, tone and more recently colour. Whilst still continuing to experiment with Life Drawing marks and techniques, I now also experiment with portraiture using acrylics. My portraits are generally of people important to my life, which includes my dog Edie. My interest is still in the freedom of a mark and it's use to give the illusion of the three dimensional. Speed still plays an important role in capturing visual vitality.”
