Samuel Thomas lives and paints in North Norfolk. After studying Graphic Design at Leeds he now paints full time, mainly acrylic on canvas large scale depictions of Norfolk landscapes and seascapes.
He also makes lino prints, woodcuts and etchings.
Samuel’s work is influenced by many periods of art and design, in particular art deco images have been a predominant feature, and also Japanese printmakers have been an influence.
There is a feeling of the travel and tourism posters that were produced from the 1900s to 1950s in Samuel’s work, also in some works we have a feeling of 1960s psychedelic pattern and colour.
The Norfolk scenes that Samuel paints are very contemporary and an alternative view of the coast and countryside of East Anglia. They are fresh, vibrant and reflect Samuel’s graphic design back ground.
As a painter who was born and lives on the coast of North Norfolk, Samuel has a unique take on the visual images around him. His artistic interpretation of these scenes is refreshingly new and different.
