Roy Turlington - b.1942
Artist born in Sileby, Leicestershire, who studied industrial design, 1959-65, and began painting in 1970. Studied at Sheffield College of Art 1974-7, and was for a time artist-in-residence at Nottingham City Hospital, living in the city. In his early work Turlington “was mainly concerned with line, surface and structure”; then after a trip to Italy in 1973 he “became fascinated with frescoes where the surfaces have been changed by time, architectural alterations, deterioration and fragmentation.” Group shows included Ammonite Gallery, Leicester, from 1971; Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester and Graves Art Gallery in Sheffield, both 1975; South Hill Park Gallery, Bracknell, 1978; and Summer Show 3, at Serpentine Gallery 1980.
